News ArchivesWeek of February 6, 2005 USFWS: Scientists forced to alter findings In yet another attempt to gut protection for endangered species, scientists at the Fish and Wildlife Service report that they have been required to change their scientific findings in order to justify reduced environmental regulation. More than 200 scientists employed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service say they have been directed to alter official findings to lessen protections for plants and animals, a survey released Wednesday says. More than half the scientists surveyed said they had observed or been part of cases where scientific findings were changed because of polical pressure from developers and other economic interests.
